Holly Saltz

    4th grade

humboldt-state-university.gifI have been working at Ryan Elementary for the past eight years. I spent five years as the Talented and Gifted Advisor and this is my third year teaching fifth grade, which I absolutely love!! Both of my kids attended Ryan as students, so Ryan holds a special place in my heart, not only as a teacher, but as a former Ryan parent.

I grew up in San Diego, CA until I was 18 years old when I left to attend college in Northern California. After graduating with my teaching credential, I spent a year teaching English to students in Japan where I became known as Miss Hori-san. Upon my return to San Diego, I spent a year teaching high school English and journalism before getting married and moving to Colorado. I took at long break from teaching to work in the corporate world before taking some time off to be home with my children. I returned to education in 2005 and rediscovered my passion for teaching.

Along with being a mother and a teacher, I am also a student. I am currently studying to receive my Masters in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I graduate in June 2014!

I live with my wonderful husband, Ken, my fabulous children, Ben and Julia, a cartoon-looking bulldog named Bungie, a feisty kitty named Pepper Saltz, and a guinea pig named Lucky. When I'm not teaching, you can find me reading a book, hiking with my family, or attending events for my children.
